I'm an versatile caricaturist, humorous illustrator and graphic
designer. I have years of experience, drawing caricatures
and designing graphics. I'm an award-winning professional illustrator
whose work has been published in local and national publications
and on web sites.
I'm the Art Director and Special Publications Manager at the
American Physical Society in College Park, MD. Before joining
APS, I was the newsroom graphics director of the Baltimore Sun.
My duties included overseeing the news graphics staff of the daily
newspaper. My staff and I researched and created information graphics,
late-breaking news graphics and contributed illustrations for
the writer's stories.
Before joining the Sun, I worked as graphics editor for the Pittsburgh
Tribune-Review and as a graphic reporter at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
As an experienced visual journalist/designer, I have played a
major role in numerous award-winning feature page layouts, illustrations
and information graphic packages.
While in Pittsburgh, I also drew editorial cartoons for national
publications and did other freelance design work and humorous
illustration projects. I also drew caricatures at local festivals
and private parties. My cartoons for the Pittsburgh Trib and New
Pittsburgh Courier, another paper in the city, have been reprinted
in the annual Pelican Publishing's Best Cartoons of the
Year book by Charles Brooks.
My art career started when IIdrew cartoons for my high school
newspaper in hometown of Nashville, Tn. Those cartoons eventually
lead me to draw a strip for the city newspaper, the
Nashville Banner. After high school, I attended the Columbus College
of Art and Design (Bachelors of Fine Arts) and Ohio State University.
Throughout my college years I freelanced for several publications
and founded Kerrykraft.com Design.
My first real newspaper job was as an artist with
the Columbus Dispatch's This Week newspaper. In 1992, I got a
job as a news artist for the North Hills News Record in Warrendale,
Pa., a suburb of Pittsburgh. I later worked at the Pittsburgh
Post-Gazette and at Knight Ridder Tribune Graphics Network (KRT)
in Washington, D.C
